Parents - The web site WatchKnowLearn.org is a site that has over 31,000 short videos (usually 15 minutes or less) encompassing over 18 subject categories. It is easy to navigate. You can narrow results by entering in your child's age.  

 Pre-K

     They will be learning how to handle the mouse and click on the left mouse key. I have a small sticker on the left mouse key to help them remember which side to click.

 

K-Readiness

     They will be learning how to handle the mouse and click on the left mouse key. I have a small sticker on the left mouse key to help them remember which side to click. I am using Internet programs that deal with the alphabet and simple counting.

 

KDG

     In kdg, they are taught how to handle the mouse, click on the left mouse key and use the scroll wheel. They are using programs that deal with the alphabet, counting and sight words. They will have a computer paper that will coincide with the letter of the week.  

Grade 1

      By the time they reach 1st grade they already have been taught how to use the mouse correctly. They are taught the correct terms for different parts of the computer. I use Internet prigrams that deal with phonics and simple math. They are currently learning the correct terminology of the parts of the computer (CPU, Monitor, etc).

 

Grade 2

     In 2nd grade they are currently working with math in the computer lab. I am using the program Jump Start 2nd Grade to teach how to count money and make change. They will be writing snow poems in their class. When they are completed, they will type in in computer class.

Grade 3

     Third grade has just finished writing and illustrating their own short stories. They will be using the program MaxShow to create simple Power Point presentations.

Grade 4

     Grade 4 has just finished the program Type Through Time to learn how to correctly type on the keyboard. They will be using the program Numbers Recovered to sharpen their math skills.

Grade 5

     The 5th grade has just finished the program Rollertyping which teaches the correct way to type on the keyboard. Our final top scores go to:

After the Christmas break, the 5th grade will be using the program Science Court to learn about the Water Cycle.

Grade 6 - 8 will be reading short articles that relate to technology. The ELA Assessment tests have been using these technical writings in their assessment tests in recent years, therefore, the students have to become familiar with reading more complicated material. They will receive one short homework assignment each month. They will have one week to complete the homework. Five bonus points will be added to their homework grade if it is turned in early.

 

Grade 6

     The 6th grade is learning how to program the computer using the basic computer program Scratch. This program is used to create aniimations. They are also using the program Science Court to learn about living things.

Grade 7

    The 7th grade has just finished a simulation program to learn the geography of the United States and how to manage money in a business. They will be using a Computer Aided design (CAD) program to design trucks.

Grade 8

     The 8th grade has just finished creating a Power Point presentation for a ficticious company that they have created. The are currently using the program Cross Country USA. This program teaches them how to manage their time and money while delivering products across the USA.
