Enhancing Teaching and Learning

Today’s most successful elementary schools require continued investment in technology to further the capacity of teachers to present course content and do so in an environment that fosters student learning. It also needs to equip students with the tools to expand their ability to learn beyond textbooks and in classroom materials. Our school is fortunate to have received generous funding for our Technology Initiative from the Nativity Parish Legacy Fund.  This focus on teaching and learning builds on Phase I of the Technology Initiative, the updating of our library/media center in the school which is currently underway.

History

In the fall of 2009, current and past parents, as well as, parishioners were invited to participate in a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Analysis of Nativity of Mary School. Technology was often listed as a weakness and an opportunity. Teachers were surveyed about their use of technology in the classroom. That survey pointed to a need to support teachers and staff in the expansion of their use of technology at Nativity of Mary School.

Purpose

Phase II of the Nativity Technology Initiative is the Enhancing Teaching and Learning Project (ETLP). The purpose of the ETLP is to provide the tools, training and support to teachers and administration that will enhance the education of students at Nativity of Mary School. This phase includes new computers for each classroom as well as the introduction of interactive white board technology. Also included is funding for technology updating for teachers.

Additionally, when students return this fall, the computer lab will have all new computers. Funding for updating the lab comes from student’s technology fees.
